Exci-ted for October News?

October 27, 2012

Sue, here. Apologies for our marked absence from the blogosphere these last several weeks. Things have been busy! I swear that’s not a line, it’s the truth. Phuc has lots of future posts knocking around in his brain, though, including an upcoming interview with our own Mike Rourke. So keep an eye out for that! In the meantime, I thought I’d share a little nugget or two that might make the wait just a little easier…

Last weekend, Phuc and I spent two days in L/A (for you out-of-staters, that’s the East Coast L/A – Lewiston/Auburn – not its fancy West Coast counterpart). We were in town for TEDxDirigo, Maine’s independently organized TED event. This year’s theme was Villages, and Phuc was there to give a talk – not about tattooing, but about grammar and culture. I know, I know… it sounds a bit dry from the description, but I’ll tell you the same thing I told my mother on the phone the night before we left: “No, mom, it’s not as boring as it sounds. Really.” Really.

Will Phuc shit his pants? Tune in and see!

All joking aside, I’m super proud of Phuc for sharing his story and his perspective on the world in such a public forum. It definitely put him outside of his comfort zone, and I can honestly say he killed it. I encourage you to take 14 minutes out of your day and watch it. There are some bootleg versions floating around out here on the interweb already, but the “published” version (which will fix the sound mix and whatnot) won’t be available for a few weeks yet. I promise to post a link once we have it.

In actual shop news, we’re all settling in nicely at 21 Pleasant. As I type, we’re in the midst of a bustling Saturday at the shop. Phuc just finished working on a client who’s getting a full dragon sleeve, and now he’s starting in on the final session for a pretty big cover-up. Later this afternoon, he’ll be starting a cool new sleeve project on our longtime client “Kraken Jason.” Mike started out his day with a little foot tattoo, and soon he’ll be working on two more feet. Apparently, Saturday is Foot Day (for Mike anyway). Weird. Cyndi Lou will be in a little later. Her Saturday project is a mystery, so we’ve all be guessing what it will be. Phuc says, “lady head.” Matty thinks it will be a cool, mythical sea creature. And I think it will either be a pirate or have something to do with fruit. What’s your guess?

If you haven’t checked out the web site in a while, you should. We’ve updated nearly all of the shop photos (super big thanks to Matthew Robbins!!!) and have full portfolios and bios for Mike and Cyndi Lou. Oh, and we final have a mobile site that you can navigate and stuff. Major props to our web master, raytracer, for his great vision and putting up with us these past nine years!

Oh, and here are some recent session photos from Phuc:
